World Teachers’ Day – One more year taking the challenge of education

5 October - World Teachers' Day

World Teachers’ Day is held every year on October 5th. UNESCO created it in 1994 to celebrate teachers worldwide. The aim of this day is to mobilise support for teachers and to ensure that the needs of future generations will continue to be met by teachers.

On this day we would also like to remember that teachers’ issues were discussed in detail at our VIII International Seminar – Teacher Training: Reconsidering Teachers’ Roles, held in October 6-7 2011. The opening session of the seminar served to bring up this remarkable date devoted to teachers. You can watch this moment in the recording of the opening session:

… Yesterday, October 5th, was teachers’ day, that is why we are opening this Seminar stating the great respect and apreciation for work being done by teachers all around the world, so we say it again, again and again: the teachers matter, and I would propose to applaud the teachers, all of you in fact.

We are reproducing the strong message made by Ferran Ruiz Tarragó in his keynote speech at the seminar:

The Usual Suspects? Teachers, Their Challenges and Development (By Ferran Ruiz Tarragó)
